about

GB's "Lucky In Vichy (Jacques Renault Edit)"

New York House maestro JACQUES RENAULT is a old friend of the Gomma boys. Playing a lot of the German label's releases. While having a few bottles of fine red wine at a party in Rome recently with Gomma's Mr. Munk - they had this idea to make a special mix collage of old and new Gomma tracks. Showing the old Gomma 12inches, that were so ahead of it's time when they came out and still sound fresh. Mixing it with the new, upcoming Gomma stuff.

Jacques Renault took 15 tracks. Edited them and created this 80 minutes non stop Gomma voyage. Here's the A 4-track vinyl sampler with a collection of out-of-print and never released tracks including Mercury's "Man", the classic Chicken Lips remix for Headman's "It Rough" and two exclusive Jacques Renault cuts that have never been released on vinyl.

Tracklist
A1 GB's - Lucky In Vichy (Jacques Renault Edit)
A2 Munk - Keep My Secret (Jacques Renault Remix)
B1 Mercury - Man
B2 Headman - It Rough (Chicken Lips Remix)

Juno review:
"100% Gomma mixed by Jacques Renault is a compilation that was conceived over a "few bottles of red wine" during a recent gig in Rome where Renault played alongside Gomma label chief Munk. This 12" sampler sees tracks from GBs, Mercury, Headman and Munk himself. First up is Renault's edit to GBs "Lucky In Vichy", a tribal tinged and synthesised disco burner, while Renault's remix to Munk's "Keeps My Secret" sees deep leads and housey stabs venture into Runaway territory - Renault's remix project with Marcos Cabral. A booming bass drum somehow becomes the synth line in Mercury's "Man", whilst the classic Chicken Lips rework of Headman's "It Rough" makes this even more of a necessary purchase."

Resident Advisor review:
"This four-track EP is a sampler for long-time Gomma associate Jacques Renault's recent 100% Gomma mix of old and new material from the German punk funk/indie-disco label, which is available as a free download.

Chicken Lips' classic remix of Headman's 2003 track "It Rough" is the standout. It offers up a thumping bass background to the original's echoing vocal sample before skittering hi-hats and cowbells kick things into high gear. Renault's edit of GBs' Dinosaur L-sampling track "Lucky In Vichy" and his remix of Munk's "Keep My Secret" also feature. The former shaves a couple of minutes off the languorous, bass-guitar-led original, while the latter offers up a lingering synth line, crashing cymbals and fragments from the original's characteristically poppy duet vocal. Mercury's "Man," from this year, completes the foursome with taut hi-hats, acid bass synth slabs and a knowing vocal—"my muscles are of steel, my mind a complex computer."

Several of the highly enjoyable mix's more interesting moments are omitted—see Daniel Avery and The Deadstock 33s' "Nylon Icon" and Baldelli's "Phobos"— but this selection is a solid representation."
